She is best known for her performance as Willie Scott, an American nightclub performer and singer in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984), directed by eventual husband Steven Spielberg. She has appeared in Dreamscape (1984), Power(1986), SpaceCamp(1986), Black Rain (1989), Love Affair (94), Just Cause (1995) and The Love Letter (1999). Her portraiture work has been displayed in the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery Capshaw was born Kathleen Sue Nail in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of Beverley Sue (nee Simon), a beauty and travel agent and Edwin Leon Nail, an airline employee of the airline. At the age of five, she was years old when she moved to St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from Hazelwood Senior High School. Capshaw graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in education. She was also a part of Alpha Delta Pi. She taught special education at Southern Boone High School in Ashland, Missouri, and Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri.
