
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actress and a singer who performed for over 40 years. A torch-singer renowned for her sultry, languid contralto vocals, London recorded over thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 between the years 1955 and 1969. The song she sang on "Cry Me a River", a track she released on her debut album was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award as a actress for her portrayal in Emergency The Adventures of Dixie McCall. London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began acting as an actress as she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's career as an actor lasted 35 years. in film in 1944, and included roles as the female lead in many westerns. She starred along with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) as well as Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), together with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). She signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records in the mid-1950s. This marked the beginning of her professional career in music. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969, however, she continued to be a hit in the lead female character of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979) In the show, she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband who produced the show.
